First Choice Healthcare - High Standards for Home Health

First Choice Healthcare abides by the highest standards in quality home health care service. We follow OBQI and OASIS standards to improve care through the centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

  • Outcome Based Quality Improvement (OBQI) – A systematic approach that home health agencies can implement and follow to continuously improve the quality of care they provide.
  • Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) – Used to define the objectives for quality improvement. These are done on the first day the patient is admitted and then every 60 days.
  • First Choice Protocol – Continuity in our home health care for Rio Grande Valley patients is essential. Therefore, the same LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) stays with the same patient to avoid any confusion and allowing our LVN to keep up-to-date on a patient's progress.
  • Weekly Wound Assessment – If a patient’s wound is not healing, every 21 days another more experienced nurse will go to assist. If no healing still occurs, we resort to other methods, referrals to a nutritionist and so forth.

Better Tools

We've invested more than $20,000 to equip our nurses with better tools
  • 8 mega pixel digital camera for weekly wound assessments
  • CoaguChek® XS System
  • Pulse Oximeter
  • Monofilaments
  • Venus Doppler

Simulated Lab – Education and Training

  • We've invested more than $18,000 and designated 800 sq. ft. of office space for education and training for our staff.
  • We provide medical models and mannequins, which are used for practicing certain medical techniques, such as how to draw blood.
  • Each nurse is taught to troubleshoot at home so that their patient does not end up in the hospital.
  • First Choice Healthcare plans to extend this service to other physicians in the community in the near future.
